MPEG-1 Audio Layer III (MP3) applies psychoacoustic lossy compression to remove frequencies the human ear perceives least, producing small files at acceptable audio quality. Audio Video Interleave (AVI) interleaves audio and video streams in a Microsoft container format that supports many codecs but lacks modern streaming features. This wraps the audio track in a video container, which some platforms require for upload. Metadata such as creation date and embedded colour profiles is preserved where the target format supports it.
