WEBP is a image format: it supports both lossy and lossless encoding with transparency and animation, typically 25-35% smaller than equivalent JPEG or PNG files. PDF is a document format that stores fixed-layout pages with embedded fonts, vector graphics, and page geometry defined by ISO 32000. This embeds the raster image inside a document container, fixing its dimensions on the page. Metadata such as creation date and embedded colour profiles is preserved where the target format supports it.
