WMV is a video format: it stores video encoded with the proprietary VC-1 or WMV codec in a Microsoft ASF container, primarily a Windows ecosystem format. MOV is a video format that packages video and audio in Apple's QuickTime container, which can hold ProRes, H.264, or HEVC tracks. This conversion changes the file's encoding, compression method, and supported feature set. Metadata such as creation date and embedded colour profiles is preserved where the target format supports it.
