Converting HEIC to JPG makes Apple photos compatible with Windows, Android, and web platforms that do not natively support the HEIC format. HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is based on the HEIF standard and uses the H.265 (HEVC) video codec for image compression, achieving roughly twice the compression efficiency of JPEG at equivalent visual quality. While HEIC files are natively supported on iOS 11+ and macOS High Sierra+, they are not universally readable on older systems, non-Apple devices, or most third-party image editors. The JPG output uses JPEG (JFIF) compression at a configurable quality level — 85% quality is the default, which balances file size against visual fidelity for typical photographs. Colour profile conversion from Display P3 (common in HEIC captures) to sRGB is performed automatically to ensure accurate colour rendering in standard web browsers and photo viewers.
