WEBM is a video format: it packages VP8/VP9 or AV1 video with Vorbis/Opus audio in a royalty-free container designed for web streaming. JPEG is a image format that uses lossy DCT compression that permanently discards fine pixel detail to achieve small file sizes, ideal for photographs. This conversion changes the file's encoding, compression method, and supported feature set. Metadata such as creation date and embedded colour profiles is preserved where the target format supports it.
